Well there's always lots to do isn't there? A friend had a birthday coming up and I really wanted to find a few minutes to make a little something for her. Most of us need pincushions right? So that's what I made!
Drew up the dimensions and the mushroom and whipped it up. I really loved this cutie and I am a sucker for an excuse to do some outline hand-stitching. So effective, so pretty, and so enjoyable to do :)
What little quick and satisfying gifts have you whipped up and given in the past?
And out of interest...how many pincushions do you own?

Your handstitching is so neat! What a cute pincushion and such a lovely gift for your friend. I own one pincushion, it doesn't really get used. I tend to avoid pins wherever I can. Maybe if I get more into quilting, it will get used more. As for gifting handmade items, I clearly remember the first time I did this - it was some hand painted wooden letters of my friend's daughter's name and I had decorated them with some fake flowers - it sounds awful, but I thought it looked nice. Even so, I worried so much that she would hate it and I would be labelled 'thrifty' by not purchasing something from a shop (well, I purchased all the materials for the project, but you know what I mean). I needn't have worried because my friend loved it. That gave me the confidence to make more things, but I am still always nervous about how they are received. I was given some pretty incredible handmade Christmas decorations last year, and I LOVED them all ;) but I know not everyone feels like that which is what makes it so hard to join in with the ornament swaps that I see pop up towards the end of the year. Anyway, that was a long spiel. I hear you on the busyness - everything seems to speed up towards Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - I'm a sucker for toadstools and those colourings.
ReplyDeleteI think I have 4 pincushions - they are all so pretty and handmade and I love them all

ReplyDeleteCute as a button! I own one pin cushion :) I don't use pins as much as the average bear but when I do I couldn't imagine anything sweeter than retrieving them from a toadstool pincushion...
