A few weeks ago I mentioned I've been testing some paper piecing patterns for the incredibly talented Juliet.
As luck would have it the timing was perfect! At at the time I was wondering what to do as a gift for my SIL whose favourite NZ bird is a fantail...
And I knew just the fabric for the bird and for a cushion cover. Taking care with the colours, fabric choices and running pretty low on some of the quantities... a fantail cushion cover came together. Some handquilting to compliment and add texture, and off it went to its new home. Yay :)
What's your favourite bird? Have you incorporated it in your creations before?

And I'm linking up with Paper Piecing Party this week too.
Love this Leonie! I don't think I have a favourite bird - although I told Juliet she should add a Stitchbird to her patterns - they have nice markings and they look like a little ball of fluff on legs (very cute)
ReplyDeleteLove how the pillow turned out. That bird house fabric is perfection. I have 3 NZ to make into something. Not sure yet.
ReplyDeleteI bet your SIL loved it! I've got quite a few favourites, hard to choose just one, Fantail, Tui and Kakapo are my top three, but personality-wise it would be the Kakapo!
ReplyDeleteYour cushion looks AMAZING!! I bet it is a much loved gift
ReplyDeleteThat cushion is stunning! The blue really lifts the whole thing, just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteJuliet is clever to be able to design these birds, and you have done a great job of bringing it to life. I love the blue border too. I've never actually sat down before and considered what my favourite bird is, I don't think I have one.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour you've used with the cushion. Fantails are the most delightful birds aren't they?
ReplyDeleteBtw - I totally forgot to add the link to show and tell at the end of my post - SORRY! Chalking that one up to baby brain!
this is lovely Leonie - the colours are so warm and subtle - well done x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous as always. Great colour combos... She will love it! Xx
ReplyDeleteSoo beautiful! What a perfect gift! I have a novice question...I've long admired quilting and would love to get into it. Where do I start?!

ReplyDeletejuliet is exceedingly clever, but you do have to have quite a bit of clever yourself to put that lovely thing together x
ps. i really like saddlebacks, i've only seen one once though, but i still remember the lovely reddish brown feathers.
just found this wonderful link up through Max's blog.
ReplyDeleteI do like your beautiful cushion. as for my favourite birds they would have to be the Superb Blue Fairy wren, the Satin bowerbird and the Magpie.

That's a fine looking cushion! I hope she loved it :-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE how your gifts are always made with such love and care xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely
Wow! That's beautiful. I love fantails too, and I looove the colours you've used. Juliet is a star, isn't she?
ReplyDeleteYou've done a great job Leonie!
