Gaming on

It's probably been said on here before but...we love games : )

We played quite a few on some of the quieter times or more miserable days.

Some of the girls favourites are Pengoloo and Hiss.  Even little L (who's 2) grasps the concepts and rules of these and enthusiastically plays along.

And for fun we tried out Blokus too one time.  Nevermind the rules, we just played it puzzle-styles :)

I was endlessly entertained by the girls helping each other in each game, rather than competing.  Warm fuzzies : )

Happy Monday!

What to do on a winter evening...

I love boardgames... ALOT! One of my favourite ways to spend an evening is with good company, a nice meal, yummy dessert and some friendly gaming :)

The options are endless but I thought I would share a few favourites with you.

Family Friendly Fun: Ticket to Ride

Ages: 8 and up
Players: 2-5
An oldie but a goodie and one we often come back to at the end of the evening. There are many different maps and variations available, along with an online version and apps for your smart-device!  It's quick and easy to play (30mins or so) and can be super competitive or very friendly - depending on who you play with!  It was our introduction to Euro boardgames and we have never looked back.

Something with Serious Strategy: Agricola

Ages: 12+
Players: 1-5
Possibly one of my favourite all time games - I could probably play it most days.  A game with a lot of "thrill of the chase" as you are always thinking about how to get ahead : )  It is not for the fainthearted though and has a big set-up, rule book and takes about 2 hours to play - but it is definitely worth it!

Light and Fluffy: Dixit

Ages: 8+
Players: 3-6 (or up to 12 with Dixit: Odyssey)
This is very much a light and fun family game that is imaginative and provides a lot of laughs.  We will often play it over holidays or when there are a few extra people about.  Play time varies depending on just how many people play but it's a relatively short game.

Perhaps I'll try to review a game or two on a weekly basis as I found it almost impossible to stop at those 3...  There are so many great games that offer different things for different tastes, groups, level of interaction, brain engagement, etc etc...

What do you like to do during these wintry nights?  Would love to hear what you get up to and if you have any favourite boardgames!

Happy Humpday : )

Week...end...

Finally the weekend arrived...

A week filled with lots of tears, frustrations, worries and sickness... And now that the new week beckons I will lock away those parts of it and remember the good stuff - which there was and I remember with a smile : )

Smile 1:  With no holiday programme at kindy for Anya and therefore nothing to bring home and show off everyday, we took to creating extra special pictures to show Daddy when he came home.  We had great fun making black spotted panda-bears, cotton-wool sheep, houses out of shapes, fish-tanks with sparkly air bubbles and cars with moving wheels!

Smile 2: And we've learned a new game to play together which the girls learned easily and quickly and we all enjoyed immensely!  We have a few more that we'll be learning in time to come that should be fun.

Smile 3: Potty training Heidi.  We've been delaying this although she's been ready for months due to Liezel's impending arrival initially and then her newborn presence... we figured we had enough to deal with.  She's more or less been going by herself on and off so we decided it was really time to get on with it.  So on Friday it was bye bye daytime nappy and hello big girl knickers!  So far so good and today she took herself to the toilet without needing to be reminded!  Yay for big little girls!

Friday's Highlight:
- A great start to Heidi's potty training!
- Learning and playing a new game with my big girls.

Saturday's Highlight:
- Anya's gorgeous butterfly face.

Today's Highlight:
- Liezel rolled over!

And we came very close to adopting a dog from the SPCA this weekend... We even had three dogs that we decided would be nice additions to our family... But the Hubby thinks we should wait a little while - apparently we have enough dependents!

Now I've got all this out - Wordless Sunday can Almost be Wordless!

Ummm...

Today's Highlight:
- Tall Caramel Macchiato with extra drizzle from Starbucks - delish!

Game night tonight so that will be another highlight.  Trying out a new one, possibly two!  Fun fun fun!

Sleep tight
