Show & Tell: Friendly Fantail

Welcome to Show & Tell for another week :)

Show & Tell Thursday's

A few weeks ago I mentioned I've been testing some paper piecing patterns for the incredibly talented Juliet.

As luck would have it the timing was perfect! At at the time I was wondering what to do as a gift for my SIL whose favourite NZ bird is a fantail...

And I knew just the fabric for the bird and for a cushion cover. Taking care with the colours, fabric choices and running pretty low on some of the quantities... a fantail cushion cover came together. Some handquilting to compliment and add texture, and off it went to its new home. Yay :)

What's your favourite bird? Have you incorporated it in your creations before?

Our sponsor for September is the fantastic Make Cafe. They have a great online shop and so many delicious goodies! Stay tuned for details on a great giveaway for you lovely players this month : )

  1. Love this Leonie! I don't think I have a favourite bird - although I told Juliet she should add a Stitchbird to her patterns - they have nice markings and they look like a little ball of fluff on legs (very cute)

  2. Love how the pillow turned out. That bird house fabric is perfection. I have 3 NZ to make into something. Not sure yet.

  3. I bet your SIL loved it! I've got quite a few favourites, hard to choose just one, Fantail, Tui and Kakapo are my top three, but personality-wise it would be the Kakapo!

  6. Juliet is clever to be able to design these birds, and you have done a great job of bringing it to life. I love the blue border too. I've never actually sat down before and considered what my favourite bird is, I don't think I have one.

I do like your beautiful cushion. as for my favourite birds they would have to be the Superb Blue Fairy wren, the Satin bowerbird and the Magpie.
